“ Fragrant and scrumptious! We asked for a meant&veg sharing platter for three and were blown away by the food. Do ask for extra injera bread when you order - although we were all stuffed by the end so extra is pure gluttony. I think it came to 35$ each? More than worth it for amount of food. Let alone that it was delicious! The chicken pulled off the bones with the lightest touch; the chickpea (shiro?) was smooth and creamy; the goat was hearty; the lamb tender; one lentil dish was lemony and refreshing; the other was comforting and spiced; the spinach had a tang that cut the richness of the other dishes and I think that is all? Oh, there was a second lamb, and a cabbage! Habesha is a place I am going to visit again and take all my friends to. It's a must visit for everyone and an easy place to try this cuisine if you're a first timer. Don't be afraid to ask for extra napkins! ”
“ We were happy to try our local restaurant today. It was flavorful and authentic Ethiopian food. I ordered a lunch special "meat on rice"for $12. The basmati rice has been soaked for 4 days and well seasoned for each bite. The lamb meat was tendered and cooked nicely. I also had barista black coffee and it was roasted by the owner. Good one. I'd like to try their traditional coffee in a clay pot next time. The owner/staff is friendly, passion and welcoming. We definitely will be back and highly recommend it to you too. ”
“ What can I say, was a really great meal. Food is awesome, with strong clear flavors. Servings are big and wholesome, Ethiopian coffee is not to be missed! When choosing spice level, remember that spicy can be very spicy! ”
“ Fantastic food and loved talking to the chef - thanks for your hospitality. Even my picky parents had favourites and “stuffed themselves” which is a massive compliment. Get the mixed meat and veges - comes with a bunch of things to try. It feels like you’re going to a mates place to eat a home cooked meal in the location, but the food is restaurant quality. If you want authentic Ethiopian food, go here. ”
“ Posted this elsewhere already (not a paid review!! Its just amazing food and the guy deserves a lot of credit) Tried the Habesha restaurant in Christchurch today, cannot recommend it enough!!! The owner is such a lovely guy, very friendly and hardworking- the prices are amazing value, huge meat portions and the Ethiopian coffee was a large size (third pic shows serving size scale). I honestly loved the lamb tibsi- to die for, and you can choose how spicy you’d like it! The coffee is beautifullll, even got a chocolate fish with it. Ended up purchasing a chicken tibsi to take home too, just amazing ”
“ Great place to try delicious Ethiopian food, very friendly service, good prices and portions. Had the chicken, and lamb. Location is a repurposed house so lots of different areas to choose from to sit, so if you want more privacy you can have a room to yourself ”

“ Good food, service, and nice Ethiopian coffee, though the dining environment could be improved given the price. The owner was very accommodating and friendly, which made the experience more enjoyable. We particularly loved the goat and lamb dishes, but found the beef a bit too chewy and with a slightly unusual taste. The lentils were delicious, while some of the other vegetables were just average. The injera was ok surprisingly served cool rather than warm or room temperature, and the other bread was unfortunately far too hard to enjoy though heated. ”
